in many directions, as though trying to escape from
something evil. Then an old man approached me,
handed me a bag of soil, and said, “This is the soil of
Iraq. Keep it safe. You will be the one to save Iraq.” Then
he disappeared.”

“…I instantly froze in place; I felt I could not turn around
or walk. My legs started to shake, and I started sweating.
My mouth and throat dried up, and I couldn’t swallow
properly. I thought: How did a stranger come into the house?
From which door did he enter? Does he have a gun on him?
As I was in my whirlpool of thoughts, I decided to be
courageous and talk to him.
With a shaky voice and without turning around, I
asked, “Please do not hurt me. Who are you? What do
you want?”

“…The place, its streets and buildings all looked familiar, but I didn’t know why I was there alone. The fear I felt from being unaccompanied in that place was unusual. I saw myself running from street to street, holding two pieces of luggage, trying to find someone to talk to. However, I could not find anyone. It seemed as though everybody vanished from that place for a reason. The streets looked dirty and were covered in newspaper and garbage throughout. It was cold, and I could hear wolves howling. I was spooked and confused, but I felt that I had to find a way home.

I kept running from street to street, knocking on doors and screaming for someone to help me. I couldn’t make any sense of what I was experiencing. I was tired and was desperate for an explanation. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew in the area, causing the papers and rubbish on the streets and sidewalks to fly around, directionless. I closed my eyes to prevent the dust from entering. One of the flying papers hit my face and latched onto my cheek. I pulled the paper off my face and looked at it. Just then, the wind abruptly stopped blowing, and I quickly became overwhelmed as I read what was written in red scribbled on the piece of paper: Be prepared. What will come . . . will be worse.“
